Education outside the classroom

Science Week - "Becoming an Astronaut"

In January we had a whole week of activities based around the theme "Becoming an Astronaut" which included a spacesuit workshop, a robotics lab for Year 6, making Moon buggies and space-themed sports!

No Pens Day Wednesday

Wednesday 3rd October 2018 was No Pens Day Wednesday! This is a nationwide literacy initiative that we have taken part in for the past six years which is aimed at highlighting good speaking and listening in both primary and secondary schools. Basically, no writing of any description is allowed, so children and teachers have to look for alternative ways to discuss, debate and record. The children, of course, love it, but the teachers also really enjoy the challenge of looking at planning and delivering inventive lessons!”

Art exhibition

This year we held a whole school Art exhibition with all of the children contributing their artwork on a given theme. The theme this year was "Self-portrait"

Book Week

The whole school takes part in Book Week. In 2017, the Book Week theme was "We've got Rhythm". We had a visit from Stan Cullimore, a prolific  author of children's books with more than 120 books published to date. Stan is also a writer, producer and director of children's TV programmes, as well as a retired pop star (remember The Housemartins?).

On Dress-up day, all the children and staff came to school dressed as their favourite book character.
